Team Spotlight – Chief Operating Officer, Chris Psallidas

As a fast-growing startup, Digitex has recognized the need to have someone responsible for overall company operations. So today, we shine the team spotlight onto our Chief Operating Officer, Chris Psallidas! 

You may be thinking, “hold on a second, don’t I know this guy?” And you’d be right! Chris joined Digitex back in March as our Head of Customer Service and Experience. We previously featured him in a team spotlight for that role, where he shared his responsibilities in bringing together a support team that would be available for our users 24/7. 

Since then, he’s successfully launched the Digitex Help Center and recruited a team of 13 live agents. Many of them will be familiar to those of you who are part of the Digitex Telegram channel. The team now provides round-the-clock support to our mainnet traders, covering all time zones and fluent in seven languages, including Russian, Hindi, and Vietnamese, among others. 

On Stepping Up to the New Role

So how did the journey to becoming COO happen so quickly? Chris explains that Digitex is still very much in startup mode. 

“As a fast-growing tech startup, Digitex takes an “all hands on deck” approach to getting things done. We were only around 25 people when I joined back in March, and with a small group like that, it’s relatively easy to co-ordinate between everyone.”

However, as we’ve alluded to in the past, Digitex is hiring at a rapid rate. This has involved the expansion of various teams in different locations around the globe. We currently have close to 70 people working for Digitex, covering customer support, marketing, development, creative, finance, and more. 

As Chris puts it: “With such rapid growth, it quickly became obvious that we needed to change some of the ways we work. Adam is very much a visionary leader, but this style naturally means he’s less focused on the kind of day-to-day administrative activities that started to snowball as we grew. I’m the opposite – I’m very detail-oriented, so it made sense that I stepped in to introduce some of the systems and processes that could support our growth.”

As a startup, Digitex hasn’t historically had the kind of back-office functions that many established corporate businesses have. So, alongside his role leading Digitex’s Customer Experience team, Chris has been busy setting up some organization and structure around areas such as finance, human resources, and procurement. 

Stepping up to the plate like this meant a significant expansion of his role and responsibilities, which has now been formalized into his appointment as Chief Operating Officer. 

So, what does an average day look like for Chris? Well, he’s based on the East coast, so his day starts after many of the Digitex team members who are based across Europe, Asia, and Australia. 

He laughingly points out that his day has already started from the moment he wakes up. “I usually wake up to more than twenty messages on my phone!” After that, it’s back to back team meetings via the Digitex Slack channels, along with participating in team interviews and dealing with external suppliers. 

Vision for the DFE

What does Chris see on the road ahead for the DFE? 

“Right now, we’re all laser-focused on the public launch. For me, that means making sure that from a trader’s perspective, everything goes as smoothly as possible. Even though we’re going to be putting the exchange under a lot of pressure once we start the public onboarding, my number one goal is that we keep a “client-first” mentality.”

He elaborates: “In a perfect world, no user will have any issues at all, and my job is done! But if a trader needs customer support for any reason, they should have the best experience possible.”

Beyond the public launch, Chris explains that his role in the future will involve ensuring that Digitex becomes a premier trading venue, driving demand for the DGTX token. From the customer support perspective, this means providing an outstanding experience to traders. 

From the general operations perspective, it means making sure that Digitex teams operate like a well-oiled machine, too. In his role as COO, Chris will implement continuous improvements in our back-office systems, tools, and processes that will continue to support Digitex’s growth. 

On Working with Adam

So, finally, what’s it like working with Adam? Chris says:

“Adam and I have great working chemistry, so I find him very easy to work with. Since the Digitex ICO, I’ve always been impressed by his out-of-the-box thinking and vision for the future of Digitex. I’m proud to be a part of what we’re building – the world’s first zero-fee crypto trading platform. That’s massive.”
